Student Success Statement 72

Student Success Statement
"Honesty is the cornerstone of character. The honest man or woman seeks not merely to avoid criminal or illegal acts, but to be scrupulously fair, upright, and fearless in both action and expression. Honesty pays dividends both in dollars and in peace of mind."
-B.C Forbes

What I think this quote means is that honesty is a very important characteristic trait to have. It can make you a good or bad person. In the end being honest pays off.

Student Success Statement 52

Student Success Statement
“When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece.
This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day."
 - John Wooden

What I think this quote means is that we should all try our best on everything. If we continue trying our best we will eventually become a lot better it. An example would be baseball. If you practice and give your all you will end up being a good baseball player.

What enhances your listening?

Student Success Statement
“He listens well who take notes.”
-Dante Alighieri

What I think this quote means is that when people take notes it means they’re paying you attention. People who take notes write down important stuff they don’t want to forget. Thus it makes them better at remembering stuff.

During Class
One approach that has been proven effective is called the Cornell Note-Taking System. Here are some of its methods.
Start by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. Be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. Things to keep in mind:
1.    Get the speaker main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.
2.    Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.
3.    Organize as you write. Pay attention to cues such as repetition and emphasis.
4.    Indicate main and supporting points as you go.
5.    Jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.
6.    Ask questions. If you’re confused, it’s better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

“Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, although difficult, is the highroad to pride, self-esteem, and personal satisfaction.”
-Margaret Thatcher

What I think this quote means is that even if it seems difficult for you to choose the right you have to do what is right. Choosing the right will bring you rewards like pride, a good self-esteem, and personal satisfaction. You should always try to choose the right.

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work Part 1

Balancing High School and Part-Time Work
Part 1

http://www.collegeboard.com/students/plan/high-school/45266.html

Like many high school students you may—or need—to work part time. Working takes a lot of time and energy, though, so before getting a job, make sure that you think about your ability to handle both work and your education.

Important Considerations
You have to weigh a number of factors when deciding whether to take a part on a part-time job. It’s important to get as much information as possible, so you can figure out what choice makes the most sense for you.
Schedule a meeting with your school counselor to discuss the idea of working. Talk to your counselor about why you want to work and what type of position you’re seeking.
